Our passion is celebrated by those who are lucky enough to call this place home, and those who appreciate the beauty and vibrancy of what Fort Collins is and come to share in our authenticity.

We want to provide a brief history and synopsis of what makes this company so aligned with the values and practices of Fort Collins.

The Unique Story Behind Etnia

Almost sixty years ago Fulgencio Ramo opened the family’s first eyewear factory, with a desire to create something that would go on to honor his family but also the beautiful city that allowed his dreams to flourish – Etnia Barcelona was born, in the 1990’s distribution began, and today his grandson, David Pellicer carries his legacy on with refreshing enthusiasm and a passion for growth. Joining the family business at only sixteen, David spent the next 32 years devoted to maintaining his family’s dream while seamlessly integrating a vision for moving into the future with a focus on sustainability and environmentally conscious practices, supporting his vision is the benefit of having all design, manufacturing, and distribution based in Spain, with 650+ passionate employees close by and passionately devoted to growing a company they truly believe in.

Etnia Barcelona emphasizes a loyalty to providing a high quality, elegantly unique product made from Mazzucchelli (mat-soo-kell-ee) acetate, highly regarded as some of the world’s best acetate, made from cotton and wood providing a polished look and silky soft finish, carefully hand assembled and inspected the frames feel luxurious while maintaining a promise for environmentally conscious materials the company continues to grow and remain steadfast in providing high quality gorgeous frames that make you feel like you’re wearing a piece of art.

Mirroring our adoration for showcasing and appreciating artists and their passion, Etnia also maintains connections with artists, both local and foreign. In 2020 and 2022 Etnia Barcelona partnered with Spanish artist Ignasi Monreal to release a collection of glasses frames inspired by Ignasi’s art. Their passion for showcasing artists continues back to 2012 when Etnia partnered with Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, and continues with honoring other artists through collaborations inspired by the late Jean Michel Basquiat and David Bowie. Their continued support of artists is part of what makes them stand out against other brands, their eye for detail and their loyalty to quality design paired with outstanding and eye-catching designs makes us proud to carry them and be able to provide a brand we truly feel matches the core values of this city.
